Rudolph Day-January 2013

If you've never heard of it, Rudolph Days are celebrated on the 25th day of each month throughout the year. It is a way to prepare a little bit each month for Christmas. There are many ways to celebrate Rudolph Days, depending on what is important to you about the holidays. Some people put an emphasis on shopping, menu planning, or home decorating. My emphasis will be on handmade items that can be made throughout the year or to give some ideas and inspiration come October (or November...or December 22).

I'm going to start off January with an amazing tutorial for a posh pillowcase. This tutorial, is clear, concise, and the results are just beautiful.

I made some of these for my home and I can tell you that they would make lovely gifts for friends and family. What is great about something like this, is that you can make them to match any décor, the cost is relatively low (have you seen the price of even plain pillowcases!!??) and they are stunning!

Here are some of the posh pillowcases that I created.

I made these for my bed. I love colorful pillowcases and I just don't find them in stores!

These I made for my daughter's bed. I just couldn't find any "old fashioned" looking sheets and pillowcases in stores so I found these prints at a local quilt store. On the aqua floral, I didn't crochet the trim, I used trim that was on the edge of a dresser scarf I found at a thrift store.

I hope this gives you little inspiration. Christmas and other winter holidays are far away now, but they sneak up on me every. single. year.

  6. I love the trims on your pillowcases - and I think I might try my hand at crochet. There must be a tutorial on pinterest how to begin. Thanks for the inspiration!
